The Zambian government announced that they would be moving forward with placing teachers and nurses. This hasn’t happened in a long time, and we were excited to hear this news. In our girls program, we have teachers and nurses who graduated recently and have been looking for employment – so this could be the moment!
The names of those selected for placement came out last month and thousands were listed, but our girls weren’t among them. How could this be? We learned that candidates are chosen based on who finished their education first, and some had been waiting for over 6 years! Our girls are recent graduates and weren’t selected.
Sitting with this information, lots of thoughts and feelings swirl around. It would be easy to identify with them, from a conditioned place, and throw up our hands and say, “Well, that’s just how it is, there is nothing we can do! We have to sit around and wait for the next announcement, however long that may be. There aren’t any other options!”
But that isn’t standard operating procedure for this program and Living Compassion. What do we do? We come together and see what is possible! We discuss, we listen, and we try. A recent Daily Peace Quote said, “There are no passengers on spaceship earth. We are all crew.”
As we bring the team together soon to consider what’s next, we know that we are all in this together. Navigating, exploring, creating. We are not sure what the outcome will be, but being in this process with this team is the true joy. I can’t wait to explore with this crew and see where we go!
