Little Michael is no longer a baby. He is Jowen's son and loves to come to school. Not long ago he was so little and would cry while following his siblings around the Living Compassion compound here where they live. He is always the first to be in class and enjoys playing with his friends.

Next year I am going to Grade 1, says Chilufya, who is a student in Veronica's class. He and his friends in Vero's class will go to Grade 1 if their parents can afford the school fees.

Grade 7 exams are on, and students are taking the opportunity to come out to the property early to read.

Guess who? Yes, this is Emmanuel Josephine's son, all grown up and a student in baby class, though no longer a baby. He is one of the best students in this class.

Attendance records are pasted on the wall of the main building. After extra lessons, each student puts a mark beside their name.

English books from the library. A paragraph read from each student carries a point. In the back of the students is the score sheet on the wall.

Evelyn and Miriam sing the Happy Song in Joy's class. They look so cute and neat. The two are among the new students that were enrolled this year.

"I also want to be part of the feeding program," says little George, who had slipped from his mum and come all the way to the property by himself. Some of the students in Veronica's class identified him and called his mum. Still too young, but soon, George!
